01 — The approach

A new era in healthcare: Medicine 3.0

Prevention is the best medicine. OptiMED Elite is built on the belief that proactive care transforms lives.

OptiMED Elite is a medical programme designed to unlock optimal health and human performance — developed by Dr Rudie van Vuuren, a medical doctor with thirty years' experience whose own pursuit of being the best version of himself drove a deeper dive into functional and metabolic medicine.

Our mission is to help you live longer and better. We focus on increasing your healthspan — the years you live in full vitality, strength and clarity — rather than simply counting the years.

Conventional care waits for symptoms, diagnoses, prescribes and manages the disease state. OptiMED Elite works the other way round: identify metabolic dysfunction early, address root causes rather than symptoms, optimise the four levers of health, and track the biomarkers that prove whether it is working.

The question is not whether disease is present. The question is how long it has been there undetected.

02 — Why OptiMED exists

Medicine that waits is medicine that is late.

Dr van Vuuren's move into longevity medicine began with a personal need: to be the best version of himself, and to hold himself to the same standard he asks of his patients.

Alongside it came a growing frustration with Medicine 2.0 — a reactive model that waits for disease to appear, then treats the symptoms rather than the root causes underneath them. Care becomes a series of episodes: a complaint, a consultation, a prescription, a review.

The reference ranges that model relies on are population averages. “Normal” describes where most people happen to sit — not where you should be sitting. A result inside the range can still be a result moving in the wrong direction, quietly, for years.

OptiMED Elite was built as the alternative: Medicine 3.0 — proactive, measured, individualised and prevention-first. Not the average target. Yours.

Medicine 2.0 Medicine 3.0
  1. Waits for symptoms to appear

    Screens before symptoms exist

  2. Treats the symptom presented

Treats the root cause underneath it

  3. “Normal” is a population average

    Optimal is an individual target

  4. Episodic — consultation to consultation

    Continuous — measured and retested

  5. One protocol for the average patient

One protocol built from your own data

Medicine 3.0 does not wait to be asked the question. It goes looking for the answer while there is still time to change it.

“This is more than a gym. It's a scientific journey toward the best version of yourself.” Dr Rudie van Vuuren

03 — The framework

M · E · D · S — four levers.
Each measurable. Each addressable.

Our six-month programme is built on a holistic approach that resets your metabolism and empowers you to function at your optimal potential. Together, these four levers are transformative.

  1. Mental

Chronic stress drives cortisol dysregulation, inflammation and insulin resistance. Cognitive performance and emotional resilience are measurable and trainable — so we treat them as clinical targets, not soft ones.

  2. Exercise

Zone-2 cardio for metabolic efficiency. Strength training for hormonal balance and longevity. VO2 max as the single strongest predictor of long-term health.

  3. Diet

Nutritional precision targeting insulin sensitivity and inflammatory reduction. Not a diet plan — a metabolic recalibration built on your individual biomarker data.

  4. Supplementation

Evidence-based micronutrient support matched to individual deficiencies. Not generic multivitamins — targeted interventions based on measured insufficiencies.

A glass jar of creatine monohydrate powder and a row of white, blue-capped supplement and vitamin bottles on the practice's white shelving.
Supplementation is prescribed against measured insufficiencies — the S in M·E·D·S.

04 — The programme

What OptiMED Elite delivers.

A structured, evidence-based health and performance programme built on six integrated pillars. Every pillar is assessed, measured and tracked — producing a living dashboard of your health.

  1. i

    Comprehensive metabolic assessment

Baseline biomarkers, inflammation markers, insulin sensitivity and a full hormonal profile — read as a system rather than as a list of reference ranges.

  2. ii

    Early screening

Coronary CT angiogram, microbiome analysis and a full cardiovascular risk profile. Disease does not begin with symptoms, so screening does not wait for them.

  3. iii

    Nutritional precision

A personalised dietary protocol targeting insulin sensitivity and inflammatory reduction, built on your own biomarker data.

  4. iv

    Exercise specificity

Zone-2 cardio, strength programming and VO2 max optimisation — prescribed to your test results, not to an average.

  5. v

    Sleep optimisation

HRV tracking, sleep architecture analysis and recovery protocols, because recovery is where adaptation is actually earned.

  6. vi

    Targeted supplementation

Evidence-based micronutrient support matched to individual deficiencies — prescribed only where measurement supports it.

05 — What we measure

Your biological age is the one number we manage.

Using advanced biometric tracking, comprehensive bloodwork and expert interpretation, we establish where your physiology actually sits — then manage that number through the programme.

  1. Insulin sensitivity

The central metabolic signal. How efficiently your body handles glucose determines inflammation, body composition and long-term cardiometabolic risk.

  2. Lipid profile

A full lipid assessment read in the context of your inflammatory and metabolic markers rather than in isolation.

  3. Inflammatory indicators

Chronic low-grade inflammation is the common thread running through cardiovascular, metabolic and neurodegenerative disease.

  4. Hormone levels

A hormonal profile that explains energy, recovery, body composition and mood — with any therapy discussed, prescribed and monitored clinically.

  5. Biometric measurements

HRV, resting heart rate, body fat percentage, grip strength and VO2 max — objective performance data, retested to prove change.

  6. Age-appropriate clinical examinations

Colonoscopy, coronary calcium score and DEXA where age and risk profile indicate them. Screening decisions are made on evidence, not on symptoms.

Baseline biometrics are recorded in the consulting room before any protocol is written — and retested against at six months.

06 — Weight loss

Medically supervised weight loss, inside the metabolic reset.

Weight loss at OptiMED Elite is not a separate product. It sits inside the six-month metabolic reset, supervised by the clinical team, measured with the same instruments and adjusted week by week.

  1. Weekly check-in with Annette van Staden

Annette van Staden, Human Movement Specialist, monitors your progress on a weekly basis and adjusts your protocol as needed. Accountability is scheduled, not hoped for.

  2. Biometric tracking with Anton Swart

Anton Swart, BioKinetics, measures body fat percentage, body measurements and VO2 max — so progress is expressed in physiology rather than in scale weight alone.

  3. Weight-loss medication, where clinically prescribed

Where a GLP-1 agonist is clinically prescribed, medication is administered weekly at the practice. Once compliance is established, self-administration at home is permitted for the remainder of the six-month programme.

  4. Optional full-time training

Train full-time at the OptiMED Training Lab with Annette — four sessions per week, group or individual, for structured and supervised exercise progression.

  5. Retesting at six months

Full biometric and blood marker retesting at the end of the programme measures your metabolic reset. Measure. Reset. Perform.

09 — Focused training

Train today for what you want to still be able to do.

Focused training starts from the far end of your life and works backwards. Name the thing you intend to still be doing at 60, at 90, at 110 — and the training prescription follows from it.

  1. 40

Might still want to play sport at a competitive level.

  2. 50

Might want to take up a new sport.

  3. 60

Might want to enter an endurance event.

  4. 80

Might want to ride your horse.

  5. 90

Might want to climb the stairs to the aeroplane without stopping.

  6. 100

Might want to pick up your grandchildren.

  7. 110

Might want to get up from the toilet without assistance.

11 — For executive teams

Your greatest asset is your leadership.

Investing in executive health is not a wellness benefit. It is a risk management strategy.

80%

of senior executives experience chronic stress that measurably impairs decision-making.

50%

of cardiovascular events in executives occur with no prior clinical symptoms.

>10 yrs

is how long metabolic disease typically develops silently before a clinical event occurs.

Figures as presented in the OptiMED Elite executive briefing.

  • Executive briefing

A 30-minute session with Dr van Vuuren to discuss your team's health profile and programme fit.

  • Health assessment

A comprehensive metabolic and cardiovascular baseline for each participating executive.

  • Programme activation

The six-month metabolic reset: personalised nutrition, exercise, sleep and supplement protocol with ongoing tracking.

  • What OptiMED Elite protects

Executive cognitive performance and decision quality. Leadership continuity and organisational stability. The long-term productivity of your highest-value people. And the early identification of risk before it becomes crisis.

  • Confidentiality

Individual clinical results remain strictly between patient and clinician. Organisations receive programme reporting, never personal medical detail.

12 — The founder

Dr Rudie van Vuuren

Founder and Programme Director of OptiMED Elite. A medical doctor with thirty years' experience, practising in Windhoek, Namibia.

He represented Namibia at two Rugby World Cups and one Cricket World Cup — including matches against England and South Africa in 2003. Performance, measurement and preparation have shaped how he practises ever since.

He is Managing Director of the Naankuse Group, a private pilot, and has practised VVIP medicine, including care for President Geingob. Frustrated by a reactive model of care, he went back to first principles — metabolic health, longevity science, healthspan optimisation — and built the protocol he now runs with his patients.

Consultations, results interpretation and all prescribing decisions are handled personally by Dr van Vuuren.
